Cameron Highlands Trip - Day 1

I know... it's stale news. What with my trip to Cameron being last month in Oct, but really didn't have the time nor the mood to write since coming back... Until now...

Before heading up, we had dim sum for breakfast, then took a slow drive via the trunk road towards Bidor. Upon reaching there, we stopped by to have a quick lunch of "wu kok" (fried savoury yam dumplings) & wan tan noodles at the famous "Pun Chun". The "wu kok" was as good as we remembered, but the wan tan noodles is really not recommended. I'd rather have only "wu kok" for lunch & nothing else than to attempt eating the noodles again. Kun Sam had his teething biscuits - boy he loved them. He had 5 sticks in 1 sitting!

After lunch, we continued our journey up the highlands via Tapah. Gosh... I was really sick on the drive up. I know I tend to have motion sickness but it's a first going up to Cameron - I didn't have it in my past trips. Partially thanks to Kun Sam actually. He just refuses to seat in his car seat. He has somehow learned to pull & kick & tug at the seat belt till it's so loose that he can squirm out of the seat belts & wriggle out of the car seat. I just can't describe it more accurately but suffice to say if I had left him to his own device he would have fallen out of the baby car seat & on the floor!

So I had no choice but to carry him. Bad move...

On top of the safety risk, he was just super hyper! I'm not sure if it's because he's super excited to be travelling & not cooped up at home or everything he sees out of the windscreen is just super interestingly new to him. He was jumping, clambering on & off my lap, peek at his dad over the rear-mirror, clamber to the window on the left & then to the right & the whole "process" repeats again. Golly... Upon reaching Ringlet, we just had to absolutely stop because I was really close to vomiting in the car! So Kun Sam... If you read this when you're older - you really owe mummy this!

Anyway, it was with much relief to all of us that we reached Heritage Hotel in Tanah Rata safely & me without vomitting. The hotel is ok... A bit old, but it's spacious & has all the basic things we need - fridge, TV & clean bathroom. That's more than enough for me.

After putting down our bags & enjoying the fresh cool air from our balcony (yes we had a balcony but not much of a view though... It's facing the car park though, so at least we get to see our car); we left the hotel for Brinchang. We drove around just to survey the area & start planning (loosely... not a regimental plan) where we want to go in the next few days.

We then took a walk at the Pasar Malam - bought some fried mushrooms & steams sweet potatoes for Kun Sam. Poor Kun Sam by then was so tired that he fell asleep on dede's shoulder as we walked around the stalls of the pasar malam. Finally we adjourned for dinner at one of the restaurants in Brinchang. We had steamboat! It was nicely cold - not too cold that you'll need a sweater but cool enough to want a nice hot steaming soup. Not to mention it was drizzling slightly. Parking was atrocious though. We waited for nearly half an hour for a space to park.

With Kun Sam asleep in the stroller we had a nice steamboat for 2 consisting of prawns, fish, pork fillet, pork balls, fish balls, vegetable, eggs, noodles etc. We were so stuffed! Not to mention tired. The 3 of us fell asleep almost immediately after washing up, changing & feeding Kun Sam!

Random Pictures from 2010 & 2011

Popo just a few months before she passed away. I'm glad we took this picture. It's a testament to her sporting-ness & her spirit! Love you popo!

Never in a million years would I ever imagine us taking such a photo of mummy & daddy! Gagagagaga.... Definitely something to keep to show the grandchildren! The King & Queen of the house!

I love this picture. It was taken at Taiping Lake and Kun Sam was only 2-months old. How I wish I can do something about my handbag slung over hubby's shoulder though. So un-macho.

Hihi... Kun Sam's in Chin jiji's arms (Kun Sam's Grand auntie).

If I crop this pix a little, think it'll look like he's the one taking this pix using a handphone camera! :) Here's Kun Sam being carried by Nicole in her house.

Kun Sam at Puchong with "Yee Khaw" (i.e. 2nd uncle)

Kun Sam giving that "manja" look with "Khaw Foo". Wanna "bodek" for something?

At Shen's wedding. I must say I like this pix. It would have been nicer if Kun Sam were to face the camera, but not complaining.

Brother's Convocation

Last Sunday, was my youngest brother's (Ming) Convocation. It was held at his university's Cyberjaya campus (MMU).

The family activities however started as early as Saturday. Ming arranged for a studio photo shoot. What was supposed to be his graduation photo shoot turned into a family photo shoot! Not just the family at large but even the individual families (i.e. Shen's family & of course moi). I even went to set my hair! :-) One thing about family portraits, you better get it right, or else it's going to be there on the wall to haunt you for the rest of your life!

We also took the opportunity to take a black & white photo of Kun Sam on the crawl pose. What was supposed to be a single 8R photo ended up being 5 x 5R photos and 1 x 8R photo... tihi... sigh... but they're so good at capturing his nice pix that I can't resist taking almost all of them! I would have taken more if it doesn't cost so much already!

So by the time we finished it was 7pm. We had lunch at a restaurant nearby & went back to the hotel in Kajang (Metro Inn) that Ming booked. Not too bad at RM193/night for 2 Super single bed with breakfast included; if not for:
1) the room smells like the inside of a "smoking room" at the airport lounge - the cigarette smell was so thick & strong tht I had a sore throat after just sleeping a night there
2) the room's window is blocked by a massive signboard, so it's always dark without the lights on
3) due to the lightings of the signboard, the room was very hot. With the aircond on full blast, it was still hot that daddy who's normally afraid of the aircond can sleep shirtless! Needless to say dear hubby was sweating like a p*g.
4) Breakfast was really bad. Porridge was cold, only boiled eggs (no fried), wilted salads, baked beans was as cold as if they just dumped out from the can without bothering to heat it up, sausages were sliced & cooked with burnt-black onions (I sure hope it was not prepared by a chef - or he / she should be ashamed for even graduating!), fishballs cooked in chili sauce, fried noodles & fried rice. The only thing nice in the whole buffet spread was the fried noodles. In summary, you'll do better to starve!

Anyway, back to the story at hand - Ming's graduation. :-p
Mummy, Daddy & Ming left much earlier to attend the Convocation itself since there's only space for 2. So the rest of us only go over after breakfast & after the whole ceremony. Upon reaching there, it's another few hours of photo taking. Poor mummy was by then so hungry (they didn't have much for breakfast), she had to take some cream biscuits.

Kun Sam surprisingly did not fuss much despite the sweltering heat. He was busy observing things & people around him. He grabs at the scroll case & refuses to let go. He wore his uncle's mortar & get his pix taken like a pro. He then eyed all the helium baloons around him with dreamy eyes that it tugs grandma & grandpa's heart strings... **shakes head**. At the end, he got his wish when grandma & grandpa got him an "Angry Bird" helium baloon! Really... It's true when people say it's always the grandparents who does the spoiling... I said to them "I think you'd not have bought it if it were to be for your own kids right?"; of which they unanimously answered "YES!" **roll eyes**

It was 2++pm by the time we're done & I've given Ming his graduation pressie (a CAT watch & a congratulations card including Kun Sam's signing off as "your lovable nephew"! ;-p). Lunch was at Alamanda Putrajaya at 3pm. Not knowing where to eat, we finally selected Manhattan Fish Market. It's my first visit there. The food? ok ok lar... but not really worth the prices. RM200++ for 7 pax! I know... it's cheap for a Western eatery (vs TGIF, Tony Roma's, Bubba Gump etc), but still... the fishies were Dory... the squids were reconstituted... can't blame me for expecting more for that price. But to be fair, part of the bill is for 16% services + government tax, which is also quite a hefty sum. Not even sure wht am I paying for in tht 16%.

All in all, the weekend ended too fast. Despite wanting to drop by at the Big Bad Wolf Book Fair, can't make it this weekend. Fortunately they're having it across 2 weekends. Crossing fingers nothing disrupts my plans. Will post more updates on the Big Bad Wolf later...

Mid Week Rambles

It's one of those days when you thought things are going surprisingly smooth & that maybe... just maybe, you can go home early... and suddenly... WHAM... "disaster" strikes and you need to go on a frenzy to tie everything up before the day ends. Dateline is today (be it now / 12midnight, it doesn't matter - but today)

That day is today.

It's past 6pm and I'm still waiting for one person down the chain to get something completed before I can activate the next action to be completed by another person at the other end of the chain... At this rate, am not sure when I can get home! *sigh*

Strange that a few years back I wouldn't have complained & worked till midnight if I have to. The baby really changed me. Now I'm not sure if I can get back to my old self of putting all in for work & dateline...

But hey... I'm still doing it now, so I guess it's a given. The difference is the willingness (& the amount of grumbling at the background... :-p)

Kun Sam Has a New Cousin!

Yup - My brother is now a father of a baby girl. Born on 28th Jul at 10+am, she weighs in at 3.55kg (even heavier than Kun Sam!). Despite the drama of a potential cesarean, she eventually arrived naturally. :-)

Well, not wanting to steal my brother's thunder - will give him the honours to share with us the "details".

I wonder how will Kun Sam react to another baby? Grab at her hands & gnaw it am sure... He's teething right now, so he tends to gnaw at anything that comes within reach now - especially his own fingers (his poor teddy is almost constantly wet! yet he strangely didn't like to use the proper teether).

Happenings in 2010

Since I did not blog for the whole of 2010, here's some catch up on the happenings in 2010:
1) Another CNY with no baby in sight. It's getting more & more difficult especially when bump into insensitive relatives. The most difficult this year was of a distant cousin of my mother-in-law who initially tried to match make her daughter with hubby but it didn't materialize. The daughter married a few years after us & got a baby daughter soon after; with another bun in the oven (boasted to be a boy). She was so smug about her daughter having 2 kids already despite marrying later than my hubby & looked at me in disdain when she asked how come I've not had any yet & the fact that I'm not young anymore... That #@%$#*&!!

2) My maternal grandma passed away after 2010 CNY at the ripe age of 84. It was expected because she was diagnosed with cancer some time back, but her passing was still hard. She was so strong in comparison to her peers of the same age, that it never crosses my mind she'll leave so soon. I always marveled at her strength, dexterity (imagine a full squat & standing up without aid at her age!) & most importantly she can eat anything without "pantang". Most Asian old folks I know will shun foods like duck (aggravates rheumatism), cabbage (wind), iced drinks / cold food (cold), coffee (insomnia), cucumber (cold), yam (skin itch), prawns & eggs (cholesterol) etc. Not my grandma. She takes all of them & more. I was shocked when she even ate coleslaw (a definite no-no for others)!

3) 6th Jun - historic day where the doc took the first scan of baby. At that time he was just a black circle on the scan (refer to previous post for pix of scan). I wanted to shout out to that rude woman in (1), but what's the use... She'll just say, well good for you, but my son who just got married last year is already expecting a son soon... So? You're still very late in delivering your "KPI"... sigh... Save my strength for the coming baby!

At first, time seem to drag so slowly... Especially when waiting to:

a) know if it's a boy or a girl (that took forever!!) - though I don't mind if it's a boy / a girl cos' being my first, I'm happy just to have a healthy baby; but hubby's family is anxious for a grandson. I told my friends, if it's a girl, I'll tell my mum-in-law, don't blame the "postman" (or in this case woman). I just deliver... your son determines the sex! ;-)

b) get the results of my blood test & baby's scans to determine if he's healthy

After that? It just zooms past so fast that I was "sorry" when it was time to head for the delivery room!! Maybe because I had such a good & smooth pregnancy with none of the morning sickness etc etc, I just love being pregnant! Especially to feel every kick, knee-jerks, elbow-jerks and even the somersaults! At first I was anticipating a very uncomfortable last month where mothers normally complaint to me as being among the difficult months because the baby is so huge that you can hardly sleep... Well, I admit he did kick me a lot, but when I talked to him and asked him to be a good boy & let mummy sleep at night, the kicks stopped!! ... but continued again bright and early the next morning.

Finally baby was born on 11th January 2011 at 10+am. Weighing at 3.25kg. Here's his first pix after coming out of the delivery room:

Updates After 1 Year MIA

I was Missing In Action for more than 1 year now. Those who follow my blog may be wondering what's going on? Well, in summary:

Firstly, I went for a minor op towards the end of January 2010 (Ovarian drilling to treat PCOS - Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and I ended up being on MC for 10-days.

After recovering from the op & hectic CNY period, hubby & I continued our effort to have a baby. Every month that my menses arrived, I was crushed yet again (despite the fact that the operation has helped me to stay off hormone pills & as a result I lost quite a bit of weight).

Then I suddenly found out that my gmail was barred & so was my blog! I can't access them at all! The strangest thing of all, I keep getting notifications of comments posted on my blog; which worryingly are advertising sex sites, but I can't access the blog at all. I was so unhappy cos' there were so many posts that recorded stuff I wanted to remember & I'm losing all of them! What's worse my friends may be wondering what's with all the sexual comments / sex sites recommendations. I'd like to declare here and now that I have no idea how that was posted & in no way do I condone to lewd postings made under my name / in this blog in 2010.

Then... in late May 2010, I was late by 4-days! I was hopeful & ecstatic! I immediately called my gynae to arrange for a visit, but was told to calm down & wait until I was late by 7-8 days. On the 5th day, I had some spotting & I almost cried in the office toilet cubicle when I saw it. I was a zombie for the rest of the day as the now familiar disappointment came crashing down. Surprisingly the next day the spotting stopped. I dare not place too much hope again for fear of greater disappointment, so I tried to maintain "coolness", but you can't imagine how agonizingly slow it was, waiting for another 2-days to reach the 8th day before I see the doc.

On the morning of the 8th day (it was a Saturday), 6am... I immediately rushed to the toilet, a pregnancy test kit in one hand and the manual in the other - being read & re-read to ensure I got it right. Then the obligatory wait for the strip to indicate the disappointing 1-line or dare I hope that it'll show 2 lines? The control line appeared... then... then... then...

OMG! OMG! OMG! YES! YES! YES! I have 2 lines!!!! "Babe! It's positive!!", I practically shouted at my husband who was still fast asleep. I can't belief my eyes & shoved the stick under his nose to confirm (regardless that it just got dipped in you-know-what). He opened half an eye & said "Hmm... yea there's 2 lines..." & promptly went back to sleep! Huh! How anti-climatic.

I immediately hyper-ventilated & shoved my hubby awake to quickly send me to the gynae's clinic to confirm ASAP! Now! Pronto! I need a professional confirmation or I'll go crazy! (notice how many exclamation marks I've used so far? But that was really how I felt & the scene that historic day on 6th June 2010). We arrived at the clinic at 8am but she's only open at 9, and hubby was giving me the look that says "I told you we're early"... hehe... thinking back again, it was rather comical...

As I waited for my turn to see doc, I was so nervous & worried. All the doc's previous warnings that I have higher chance of ectopic pregnancy even if I do get pregnant kept coming into mind. When I finally met the doc, she laughed that I'm too excited & it's still early days for a scan. Of which I justified that I just wanted to confirm that the embryo is safely in the right place. So, she scanned me & this is what we saw:
Don't know what you're seeing? See that perfect circle surrounded by an oval black space to our left? That's the start of a life inside me! That's our baby! That was the most beautiful picture I've ever seen & my eyes filled with tears & felt a huge lump in my throat that I can't say anything but nod / shake my head to the doc's questions / explanations. The embryo has safely made its way down the fallopian tube! What a relieve!

The rest of the year 2010 was then filled with nurturing this little being that I didn't even bother to check if my blog is unbarred until now... I'm so happy I have access to my blog back. I'll update my journey to motherhood throughout 2010 in my subsequent posts & also updates on my baby now. They may not be chronological order since I'm catching up on 1-year's worth of news in this blog, but who cares! :)

Love, new mommy...

Holiday in Penang - travel home

Although we had good breakfast of Curry Mee, an equally fantastic Chicken curry lunch (home cooked) & we rested before starting our journey home, but the incident on the way home snatched the highlight of the day.

We crossed the Penang bridge without much special incident, but just as we cross the slight slope near AutoCity Juru, the cars in front suddenly braked. Hubby braked & swerved to the left to avoid head on collision, but we still rammed on the left rear of a black Honda City. The sound was deafening but surprisingly hubby & I were not badly "flung" forward by the impact. The seat belts must be very good. Fortunately the airbag did not get blown up as well (I was told tht airbags could cause slight scrapes / superficial injury especially since both of us wear spectacles). I can't describe how I felt at tht time, but I was more shocked from the sound of the collision rather than the collision itself.

The sound was so scary tht I dare not even get down from the car to take a look at the damage. Immediately there's a whole group of ppl with walkie talkies on motorbikes swarmed our car offering towing & repair services. Goodness, I've not even recovered from the accident & all these strangers keep bombarding us with "advise", questions etc; tht I'm amazed hubby still had the presence of mind to calm me down first, said sorry & leave the car to talk. I was still zoning out, when hubby asked me to take the details of the car we bumped into.

Anyway, after much discussion with my brother-in-law over the phone, hubby finally decided to just clear the metal pieces tht got partially torn out from the front right corner of the car to avoid it scraping the tyres & continue driving back to KL. Of course the buzz around us intensified scaring us with "advice" tht we will cause more damage & we should wait for a tow truck. We left anyway, but we stopped by at Bukit Mertajam police station to lodge a police report (apparently because the accident is in Juru, we must report in the same area & not in KL). It was at the police station tht I caught the first glimpse of the damaged area. Wahliao! Like someone took a can opener & open the whole side cover above the right front wheel. Even the headlamp & cornerlight was crushed out of shape. Surprisingly, the headlamp is still functional; which is a blessing cos' by the time we left Bukit Mertajam & head back to the North South highway, it's already 6+pm.

Just when we start to settle in to our journey, with the torn metal flap protruding to the side (from the force of the wind as our car move forward) & ppl from other cars pointing at us. Smack! Crack! Suddenly a medium sized solar system appeared on our windscreen! A %$@$#@$% lorry drove over a piece of stone & it sling shot against our windscreen... Really really like the Malay saying "Sudah Jatuh Ditimpa Tangga"... Real Soey.... I think if we're more traditional thinking, we might have said "Aiya... we didn't check the lunar calendar to see whether it's safe to leave the house or not... That's why lar..." :-p

Anyway, we finally reached home without much incident. Phew... whattaday.... Fortunately we took an additional 1 day leave to run some errants. Now we have 1 additional errant... repair car!

Tiring Weekend

Last weekend was tiring & what's worse, I felt like most of it are from non-value adding activities (yikes! talking like a corporate robot now....)

We spent nearly 6hrs listening to a vacation club talk! Worse, we ended signing up for it. It's a Club membership with Golden Crown Resort (GCR) & a cruise membership with OVR (can't remember the full name). After hearing all the scary stories of scam etc & despite being able to verify the company to be "reputable" with its dealings with M'sia Tourism Board, we're still worried tht there's a catch somewhere. Fortunately there's a 10-Days cooling off period, so hubby is planning of cancelling the subscription be it genuine / fake. If anyone of you know about the above companies & have news abt them, do share. Even if I plan to cancel the membership, doesn't mean tht I don't plan to join it in future (if it's indeed a genuine membership).

That was Saturday... By the time we reach home, have dinner & clean up the dishes, I can't even lift up my eye-lids... The minute I put my head on the pillow, I fell asleep. Hubby said it was abt 10pm at tht time.

Sunday we had a full day course on forex trading. Hubby lar... I didn't wanna go, but he insisted... So go lor... To be honest, after the training, I'm more convinced tht stocks market is a better & safer investment than forex. No doubt there are ways to ensure we don't lose everything / techniques to track for opportunities, but it'll require full time monitoring because it only takes a few minutes to lose all your capital. Anyway, we left home at around 8.30am, had b/fast & arrived at the "class" at 9am. We finished at 5pm & I was already zombie like. Amazingly, I managed to stay awake to watch Death Race (see Movie Review) to the end at my sis-in-law's hse (she has a home theatre room - complete with reclining chairs, surround sound system & sound proofed / padded walls).

And on Monday I woke up at 6am so tht hubby can start journey back to PD at 6.40am! How we managed to stay awake I had no idea....

Dream Home In Smithereens

Hubby & I have been house hunting for a long time. We know we can't stay at my parent-in-law house forever. The eldest son's daughter is going to enter Primary School in a year's time. We can't be expecting the poor girl to sleep with the parent all the time. That would be so inconvenient to ahem.... beget another sibling.

However, our Dream Home is a tough one because it needs to fulfill several of the following criteria:
1. Should be around Seremban because it's a manageable drive between PD & KL, a good place to bring up children & not too "ulu" (i.e. rural) that we can't enjoy some city pleasures
2. It needs to have enough land for a swimming pool (hubby insists tht it's a pre-requisite for his dream home. Nothing I / dad say can change his mind)
3. The house needs to have at least 5 sizable rooms. 1 Master bedroom, 1 Girl's room, 1 Boy's room, 1 Library / Study & 1 Media Room
4. Safe neighbourhood for children to play outside of the house compound & for me to return home without fear of snatch thief.

After viewing houses after houses. Bungalow land after bungalow land. Nearly committing on a so-so new bungalow facing West at Seremban 2; we finally found a gem!!! We found a house on 960, Bukit Rasah with the setting like Gasing Hill. Picturesque, cooling green trees, old but comfy houses, joggers / people walking their dogs... sigh... it was heaven. The house itself is extremely old - more than 25yrs, double storey with 6 rooms, 1 wet & 1 dry kitchen, large dining & living room with total build-up of about 5,000sqft. It's on a piece of 11,000sqft freehold land, with enough space for a swimming pool, vegetable garden (wishful thinking), badminton court, dog kennel, tool shed, tea house & still have space for more (mmm.... dreaming of shady trees around some koi pond / bonsai garden around the tea hse). We found it!! Our dream home....

ok gotta admit tht it's not all heaven lar.... there's still the concern of the psychedelic coloured tiles from floor to ceiling for the 4 walls of the hse, the pillars & the floor (imagine brown water drop shape & blue background squares & repeated throughout the outer walls of the building! purple, lilac, pink & white small-small tiles like the ones you still see in some toilets, for the floor & the pillars... arrrggghhh!!!!). So there's still be a lot tht we need to put in to make it nice & livable. We finally agreed to purchase at RM4ook - just nice for our budget & some spare for us to renovate.

We immediately engaged a lawyer & issued a cheque as earnest money to secure the property. 1st bad omen came in the form of the seller wanting to change lawyer from 1 in Seremban to another in KL. Was later told tht the new lawyer is actually the granddaughter of the land owner. So, we have to recall the cheque & await for the new lawyer's details to issue the cheque.

2nd bad omen... We were told the new lawyer don't want any earnest money to commit the property. Upon signing of the S&P, then only they collect the full 10% deposit. However S&P signing can take weeks / mths depending the disputes raised between the 2 lawyers. So it's really strange that the seller doesn't want to accept the deposit / earnest money / sign any letter of offer / provide any written confirmation tht she's agreeable to sell the property to us. A sense of foreboding envelops us.....

The bad news was finally delivered about 1 week after we have engaged our lawyer & submitted my loan applications along with all my documents.... The new lawyer-cum-granddaughter is asking for RM405k & she even said tht we should not "disturb" the old lady (her grandma & owner to the land). Any disagreement should go through her. Hubby & I was puzzled at first... RM5k?!?! RM5k to break her grandma's words... Isn't tht "insulting" tht her grandma's words / commitment to us is just worth RM5k? However considering the small sum, hubby agreed anyway.

However, the more we talked, the more we felt cheated. It isn't about the amount. What is RM5k, when we're already paying RM400k & another RM100k for renovation? Even dad thought that it was really shoddily done. What if we agree with RM405k & later they say RM410k, cos' we still have not signed any letter of offer... So, hubby quickly called back the agent & said, our stand is still RM400k. If RM405k, the deal is off". A few minutes later, we got our reply, "Deal is off mar deal is off lor..." @#%@$#@%&*#$@... the cheek to even use tht tone!

Dunno if the story tht was told to me about this owner is true, so I'll just take it with a pinch of salt. The story tht was told to me was tht this old lady (land owner - her name is on the land grant) is the 2nd wife & her husband has died, but bequeathed the property to her. She had no children of her own, is very sick & is relying on the 1st wife's children to take care of her. The children are now fighting for the "inheritance" / share of the "spoils".

Hearing this story, I guess I'm glad some unexplained forces has made us decide to cancel the purchase. Maybe it'll help the old lady... at least she still has "value" to the children to have around for the property. A bit disappointed lar, but if indeed the story I'm hearing abt this family is true, I'm only filled with pity on such situation & pray tht none of my family members will ever have the occasion to endure it.

More Funnies in Quotable Quotes

I came across this quote from Rita Rudner (errr... dunno who is she)
"I know I want to have children while my parents are still young enough to take care of them"

then I thought...
"I know I want to have children while my parents are still alive to see them!!!"

Lately, everyone in hubby's family is super worried of my father-in-law. This year is really a bad year for him, health wise. He had pneumonia & his heart enlarged for some reason. So he was put on medication that he has to take daily - about 10-15 pills. He lost a lot of weight that his "smiling-Buddha" tummy has totally disappeared! A few months later, he recovered a bit....

Recently he had prostate problem again (this is his 3rd / 4th re-occurance) & had to go for a minor surgery again so that he can urinate without pain. But he needs to be on medication again & his already haggard body looks worse now...

The pressure is on me again to quickly have a kid & hopefully it's a boy too!! Sigh..... So now you know why I came up with the statement above?

Status update on my current un-pregnant condition?
Well, I was refered to another gynae who supposedly made numerous women with problem, pregnant (errr.... by the way, the gynae is a she, so when I said made women pregnant, I don't mean the gynae doing it! :-p) & the clinic is in Seremban. As usual, she got my background & stuff & she found out tht my hubby & I live separately because of our work location, but we do meet about at least 4 nights a week (more if it's my "fertile" period). What she said next was surprising.... maybe it was her attempt of joking & putting us at ease. She said "Well, meeting more often might not neccesarily mean higher chances anyway. After 5yrs of marriange, it's not like you wanna do it everyday anymore..."

huh.... hubby & I looked at each other....

:-) Well.... I'm not going to declare my sex life in the internet, but after 5-yrs, so far so good.... (minus the sometimes stress of baby-making thoughts)...

Massive Jam Last Saturday

Yea.. yea... I know it's not news.... everyone had to go through that ordeal the minute they leave home.

Hubby & I initially hoped tht we can stay home & hole ourselves in PD to avoid the jam, but his boss is throwing a party for his baby's full moon celebration. Worse, it's right in Bukit Pantai, so we have to really "redah" all the "hot-spots" in KL...

Since the party starts from 4pm right to the evening, we thought we'll leave Cheras at 4pm. The crowd at the Istana should have dispersed by then... Boy were we wrong...

We left Cheras close to 4pm. It was smooth sailing till somewhere in front of UE3, then the real jam starts. We managed to reach Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka & thinking that the Istana road should be open by now, we tried to take the road to Istana, only to find out that it was sealed. We had to make a u-turn at Sg Besi & come back to the main road towards Chinese Assembly hall & hope to hit Federal Highway from there. We drove all the way there only to find that it was sealed as well. We had to make a u-turn & enter Petaling Street. At that time it was nearing 6pm. Hubby was boiling mad by that time & cursing all the police that were standing around guarding the blocked roads.

We finally took a road towards Brickfields & cut into Bangsar. Finally we get to cut into Bukit Pantai via Lucky Garden near Bangsar Village. By the time we arrived, it was nearly 7pm! Wah... damn tiring man....

I am a Cactus No More - errrr Attempting....

I got a firm message the other day to drink lotsa water because my body is having like 20/30% less water than a normal person should have. I was so used to being a cactus, suddenly asking me to drink more than 2L/day vs my normal 2 mugs is making me dizzy at first. I'm not talking about drinks... Drinks I have aplenty. Teh tarik, barley, herbal tea, ice lemon tea, lemonade etc... But what I'm still short of is pure water (H2O) without the "additives".

The first amazing discovery since forcing myself to gorge abt 2L of water/day (though admittedly some days I only managed 1++L) for the last 1 week, was that I get to sleep better. No more waking up 3-5times a night to go to the toilet. I now go to the toilet max 2 times a night (sometimes even less). However, during the day when I drink so much water, I was peeing every other hour lar...

As a result of that, towards the end of the week, I was more refreshed, probably from the uninterupted sleep (or maybe because it's nearing the weekend & I naturally start to perk up).

So far, the results looks good.... Let's see what other improvement it can bring... I was told it should help me lose weight... dunno if tht is true, but it's sure a cheap way of doing it.... not to mention safe.... :-)

So.... with all the drinking I need to do lately, it's no wonder I dun have time to update my blog..... ;-) (excuses..... :-p)

Poor Mummy....

My poor mum tripped & fell this morning & dislocated her elbow. She was sent to hospital by an ambulance & got her X-Ray done. At first, the Dr can't see any fracture & as such put her on anaesthetic to relocate the elbow bones back in place.

She finished her op after lunch just now & did an X-Ray again after she woke up from the anaesthetic sleep. It was then tht the fracture was revealed... Errr.... actually not really a fracture. More like a piece of bone "chipped" off!

Fortunately the Dr say it should be ok to remove the chipped piece of bone without much harm to the future use of the elbow. However, you'll never know with Drs this days....

She's scheduled to be operated tomorrow to either piece back the bone / if tht's not possible, to remove the bone.

Hope she gets well soon from this ordeal without much side effects on her elbow....

Experience of Using The Ovulation Kit

Before I proceed, excuse me if this article offends your sensibilities. I would like to forewarn, if you can't take the details, to stop reading now......

Man.... I thought taking my urine sample for the ovulation testing would be easy. But with me being diuretic (i.e. I need to pee almost every other hour), it's difficult! The kit's instruction says I must make sure I do not pee for 4 hours before taking urine sample for the test. They suggest mornings right after bed. Problem is, I woke up at 4am to pee, 6am to pee & 8am just before I start work I pee again.... All within the span of 2hrs.... & tht is with me refraining from drinking / eating (cos' food has water content too).

So I've been holding it now since 8am, not peeing, so tht I can take my sample at 12 noon. What a torture!!! & I've not even taken breakfast, just to stop liquid from flooding my "small" bladder!

What's worse, the instruction says I need to maintain relatively the same timing of day for all my tests. So if I do my 1st test on 12noon, I need to make sure all my other tests in subsequent days needs to be at around 12noon too. Ahhhh!!!!!!! Tht would be almost daily torture of no breakfast!!

I gotta seriously find a way to solve this problem... Wonder if with all my "holding it" for so many tests, my "south-region" organs & muscles may be better "trained" to "hold-it" better in future - so I don't need to take the "extreme" action of not ingesting anything, liquid / solids for the whole 4-hours duration!

Or maybe I should just find another ovulation kit... Maybe this is just the "cheap" 1 tht is more of an instrument of torture - since we're not paying the premium... (I wrote "cheap" cos' even the cheapest kit I can find costs about RM8/test stick - after discount mind you....). The other expensive ones can cost up to RM20/test stick. Bet tht type is hyper sensitive where u can pee every 15mins & still be able to take the test!!

Then again.... All of them had the instructions on a slip of paper in the box & not printed on the box... There must be a reason for tht... Yea... they don't want us to know tht we're supposed to be tortured to get tested.... :-p

Ok.... 10mins more & my torture will be over! It's now 11.50 & counting!.....

p/s: Fortunately I'm at home.... Otherwise my office mates will be wondering wht's happening to me "clamping" myself / wiggling on the chair all the time for the last 4 freaking hours... That would be embarassing....

What A Joke! Arrggghhhh!!!!!!!!!

It's really a sick joke.... So frustrating tht my hubby spent the whole of friday ranting about it. What was it about?

Well, hubby took leave on Friday & I took time off to visit the gynae as a couple to seek advise, cos' we've been trying by taking my pills, hubby taking his & counting the days tht I'm supposedly "fertile" to have a go at "planting the seeds".

Turned out, we were misinformed on several matters by a GP :
1. Hubby's count was all right & not low at all! So he was taking the pill for nothing!
2. There's no such pills tht can boost sperm counts. It can help increase those who are marginally below the minimum line, but definitely none tht can boost the count to double - tht's myth # 2
3. I was told to count day 11-17 as my most fertile period. Turned out the advise given was wrong; or rather wrong for my cycle - it's correct for those with the standard 28-30 day cycle. Since my cycle is 35days, the fertile period is calculated 14days before my next cycle. Tht means it should be between day 18-23! Sh*t.... So we have been wasting nearly half a year counting the days to "avoid" the egg rather than fertilising it!

Hubby was damn mad after knowing all this... It was fortunate tht we decided to visit the gynae despite the higher cost - & it was actually to find out about IVF; but only to find tht the only reason I'm still not pregnant was not because I can't / hubby has a problem. In fact both of us are fine (with me continuing being on the pill tht is). We were just counting the wrong days....

Arrrgggghhhhh..................
Jeezzzz..... Can we only trust specialists nowadays? Is the GP now only good for issuing standard antibiotics & MCs?

p/s : Was shopping with mum-in-law just now while hubby was off "nurturing hair". Got grilling again... "Why the delay? Just go for test tube lah!" sigh...... why?!?!?!......... why?!?!?! Am beginning to wonder if this desperation I'm feeling is from really wanting a baby / from fulfilling my in-law's wishes.... I know I love children, but not to the extend of it being my sole purpose of living... sigh..........

Farewell to my favourite Finance Director - a mentor

Last Friday was the company held farewell tea for our Finance Director. It's held at our theatrette only, but I guess it had to be done in-house because of the size of the crowd. Nevertheless, I think the organisers went over the norm for him, catering satays, roti jala, delicious choc cakes & cream puffs.

I remembered he was the one who guided my career path by steering me to move out of PD, either to Miri / KL. Naturally due to hubby's work location, it was finally decided for me to move to KL for further exposure.

I was surprised that about 1-2 years after the 1 & only mentoring session I had with him, he still remembered me & said "Hi Fern? So how do you find KL? Is your husband still in PD?"

Wow!! Who would have thought a guy who looks after thousands (ok... maybe not 1000, but hundreds?) of staff - remembers all the staff he meets! I found that everyone else commented the same - that he remembers them... Even the personal sharings they told him. Amazing...

Sadly he's leaving for Brunei as his 4-yrs assignment is over. Am sure many of us in MY will miss him.... :-)

Busy Weekend : 23-24th May

Let's see.... what did we do tht was so busy...?

Saturday
Morning :
- drive father-in-law to Pudu market. He needs to buy some stuff to prepare the "Bachang" (glutinous rice dumpling - sweet & savoury)

- sign S&P for our apartment in Bkt Jalil (The Zest)

Afternoon :
- "shop" for the best home loan for our apartment

- race over to Corus for the Clark's warehouse sale. By the time we got there, all the good stuff was naturally snapped away. So left in 10-15mins without any purchase (so sad....)

- to "nurse" my shopping-spree failure with Clark's, we went to Berjaya Times Square to hunt for the "Predator" figurine from the same shop I bought the "Aliens" figurine. We saw the latest "Predator" figurine in Midvalley last weekend but it costs RM560+! So we thought of checking if this shop sells cheaper. Sadly they didn't buy any stock. We found another shop that sells the exact same models, but the price is the same - RM560+.... We didn't buy lar.... Tempting, but our current home has no display case / space to display anyway. Next time lar... We tried going to watch a movie but nothing caught our fancy, so we ended up eating Japanese ice cream (it's really yummy - made of 100% fresh milk & 100% frozen fruit with no colouring, preservatives or sugar added), can't remember the name though.... It's a small shop / stall near the Cinema in Berjaya Times Square.

Evening :
- Help mother-in-law to "wrap" bachang. I said help lar... but I think massacred tht poor conical dumpling was more like it. It turned out more cubic than conical. My mother-in-law said "Never mind lar.... first time wrap is like that one lar... As long as the bachang don't unravel - good already". The minute she completed the sentence, the twine used to tie & knot the bachang snapped, & my carefully "crafted" & wrapped bachang disintegrated into a pile of raw glutinous rice & filling on top of some leaves... My mother-in-law must be thinking "This daughter-in-law ar.... hopeless case.... Juzz puji a bit only, the whole thing gone" :-p

Sunday :
Morning - Went to PJCC near NPE to visit a construction site of some commercial buildings... Doing some homework lar... Everyone will tell you the investment is great / good. But when involving RM1mln investment - cannot accept what people say only lor.... Must check-out the place...

Afternoon - Went to Midvalley for hubby's "hair-appointment". As usual, I window shop around MV & Gardens. Didn't buy anything though... phew....

Evening - Went back to PJCC, but this time via old Klang road instead of using the NPE. Went through many Malay kampung area & some existing commercial shop projects. The market price was around RM1mln as per this new project we're eyeing, but.... it was the same price 10-yrs ago & the price did not go up much! The rental was worse.... Maybe RM3-4k for the whole block if you're lucky.... We were not as bought in about the potential of the site after that, but hubby still wanted to survey it a bit more.... Sometimes, just being a few km away from the other sites can make a big difference in terms of investment returns. Anyhow, we both agreed that we need the expert - daddy, to look at it before we commit anything.

Night - It was the 1st / 15th of the Chinese calendar, I can't remember, so the family is having vegetarian dinner. Hubby being extreme carnivore & knowing tht his dad will also go out to "dabao" his own non-vege dinner, he decided to bring his dad & myself out for dinner at a local "big fry" (dai-chao).

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................. exhausted......

2nd Hand Camry

Writing about my Accident Magnet, I just recalled that I did not mention that we bought a 2nd Hand Camry recently.

It was getting quite tiring commuting between KL & PD in the old Corolla. One day we took a ride in my brother-in-law's Camry that he purchased pending sale. Each time our poor Corolla hit a pothole / cross a "patch-work" road surface (the part of the road where TNB digs & resurface unevenly, then JBA decides to dig on the same spot - a few inches away & resurface again, then Telekom decides to dig on the same spot again! - you get the picture....) - we dreamt of the silky smooth ride on the Camry.

But, we also got a lot of suggestions like - why pay RM75k for a 6-yr old Camry when you can get a brand-new Toyota Vios / Honda City? Ok.... So in order not to get into any rash decision that we'll regret later, we went to several showrooms to test-drive. Turned out, the price is on par was merely due to the difference in age of the cars. In terms of comfort, great driving features, smooth ride etc-etc, Camry (even a 6-year old one) is a class above. We tried checking out the price of a new Camry too, just to see if the premium for a brand new car is low enough to justify buying new vs. 2nd hand. It turned out to be RM140++k! Errr.... 6-yrs old is fine with me! I'll be paying more than RM11k in depreciation for the first 6-years if I take a brand-new one & tht is if the 2nd-hand market for these cars do not dip further! Would be more if it does... (hehehe.... excuse me.... Accountant talking)!

So after much deliberation & co-incidentally since I got the car park & need a car to drive to work, we finally bought the 2nd hand Camry. Travels between PD & KL is less tiring now....
